Mindfulness and Self Rule

 30 tips in 30 days: #1.

To practice global sense and mindful self rule, I need true mindfulness, which flows from paying attention to the present moment. Rather than thinking about the past or the future, I need to live in the now. Conscious of being conscious, aware of myself being aware of myself, I sense my oneness with all life. I feel at peace. I am my true self. While I’m not mindful all the time, my spiritual consciousness guides the still, small voice of my conscience toward globally sensible choices.

Mindful self rule grows from heeding our highest and best inner guidance. We make wise choices from the intelligence of our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls. When our life choices make global sense, we live in harmony with the universal flow. Our lives work.

Inner guidance can be tricky. How do we know what is the voice of Spirit and what is the voice of our pain, insecurity, or addictive habits? If I feel an impulse to move my car prior to a storm — or not move it — how do I know whether to trust that impulse? If I think of the beach, should I immediately go grab my swimsuit? Our brains and nervous systems constantly field billions of electrical impulses. How do we know which impulses to act upon?

In general, for me, if the energy of a message feels peaceful and calm, if it resonates inside like a bell, it’s likely from my higher self. When a message to do anything is outside my comfort zone, but the message is exciting and deliciously scary at the same time, especially if I react with “yeah, but…” excuses to dismiss the idea, that message likely is from my higher self, too, and I ignore it at my peril.

In contrast, if a message feels agitated, angry, jarring, or confusing, it’s likely from my repressed shadow self. Most compulsive impulses pass in 30 seconds, I’ve learned, so pausing before acting is prudent. Mindfulness techniques like Alan Marlatt’s “urge surfing” or muscle testing help me tell which impulses to trust or ignore. Discernment requires self knowledge, ultimately, which leads to self mastery.
