Chakra Basics
30 tips in 30 days: #4.
Interconnecting our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies are energy valves, spinning vortexes, called chakras. The seven main chakras are the tailbone (root chakra), perineum and genitals (sacral chakra), solar plexus (power chakra), chest (heart chakra), larynx (throat chakra), the forehead just above the nose (third eye), and the top of the head (crown chakra). Other chakras are the navel (birth chakra), above the head (transpersonal chakra), and at every organ.
Energy lines called meridians connect all the chakras and biological systems for an integrated whole. This outer edge of my auric shell is not the boundary of my soul, however. My soul or my “higher self” transcends our earthly plane, existing beyond the “space-time continuum” of physical life. (We will talk about these spiritual dimensions in Chapter 14 of Global Sense.)
For now, we are only focusing on our physical bodies. Even so, an awareness of being more than a body is crucial for seeing how health and wellness is integral to mindful self rule. If we can govern our thoughts and feelings, then we can govern our bodies. Granted, we have an autonomic nervous system that controls our vital functions, so we pump blood, breathe, and digest food without conscious intent. Yet even these systems are subject to our will, such as slowing our pulse rate during mediation or through biofeedback. I believe we each are capable of creating total well being.
